riversouth | live music | elissa sun

Ellisa Sun cuts out her heart and leaves it all on stage - which is why she never wears white.

Raised in the City of Angels, Ellisa migrated north and found a home in San Francisco’s creative scene, where she wrangled a seven-piece band to play her music. Her sound is heartfelt, honest, and textured, combining elements of R&B, bossanova, and soul. Comparisons to artists such as Amy Winehouse, Adele, and Norah Jones come naturally.

Ellisa released her self-produced debut album Moon & Sun in 2017. In a short time, Ellisa has garnered much critical acclaim. SF Weekly called her song Unravel “as near to perfect as any song could be” and “damn gorgeous”, and Ellisa’s voice has been described as “pretty, but overshadowed by its strength...a Ronda Rousey of vocals” by The Bay Bridged.

Since releasing her album, Ellisa has played up and down the West Coast, from the Hotel Cafe in Los Angeles to the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco to basement clubs in Portland. Ellisa and her guitar have also earned frequent flyer miles, performing overseas in Japan and throughout South America.

Now on her first national tour, Ellisa is again showing she has what it takes to make it on her own. Just a guitar, an RV, and an insatiable desire to perform.

new albany | live music | the wet bandits duo

.a day that will live on in the hearts of all those who love classic 90's rock and pop music, you can be sure.  It was on this day that lead guitarist Mike W. decided he had to start a 90's era cover band. While our country was celebrating its independence, Mike resolved to celebrate his musical indepedence and break free from the confines of the traditional local music scene.  He wanted a band that played a set nobody was playing--but everyone wanted to hear.

And so, Mike turned to his cat, LD (short for Lil' Debbie, or Lil' Deborah when she tries to get into the garage) and said "it's time to find some bandmates."  LD said "meow" in approval--as one might expect.  Mike recruited his brother in music, JT, and found JB and Sam through what can only be described as divine intervention.  The Wet Bandits were born. Though it took until almost 2014 to set the lineup, once the band was together the gigs came calling, and at the start of February of 2014 the quest for world domination was on.

In late 2014 the Bandits added perpetual Ohio State student and fellow cat lover Danny C.  He sings, plays guitar, keys, and this weird guitar/mandolin thing that we have dubbed, naturally, the "mandar".  Come check out this weird thing sometime.

new albany | live music | honey & blue

Honey and Blue have just released a colorful new look and even brighter sound for their second album titled album 'All The Feels'.

The band, a self-described mix of pop, blues and soul, is fronted by singer/songwriters Adam Darling and Stephanie Amber. Appropriately named, Honey and Blue combines Darling’s sultry, bluesy sounds with Amber’s soulful, whimsical take on lyrics and harmony. Recently on WCBE (NPR), the band's much anticipated second album has finally arrived. 'All The Feels' showcases an entirely new sound to the band featuring Dwight Bailey on bass who is fresh off a tour with Dr. John and local jazz legend James Gaiters on drums.

Born and raised in Ohio, Darling met Amber (a New York native) while working at the same restaurant in Los Angeles. The two were both pursuing a career in music and quickly hit it off, writing together for more than a year before forming their band. After performing all over LA, at sought-after venues like The House of Blues and The Hotel Cafe, the duo moved back to the Midwest to continue work on their first album. Once the duo arrived in Columbus they teamed up with Dwight Bailey and created their self titled first album.

louisville | live music | jd shelburne

louisville | live music | jd shelburne

In the last few years, JD Shelburne has become one of Kentucky’s fastest rising stars, with album credits, countless shows, a loyal fan base, charity work that has raised thousands of dollars and a list full of accolades that sets Shelburne apart from the rest. Country Artist JD Shelburne grew up on a tobacco farm in Taylorsville, KY, a tiny town southeast of the Ohio River near Louisville KY. At age 19, he found a guitar after the death of his grandmother and began learning to play and sing on his own. By his sophomore year of college, he had found a few gigs at some local bars in the Louisville/Lexington, KY area and developed a fan-base that eventually landed him on some of the biggest stages in the business, opening for some of the nation’s hottest stars. Eventually, Shelburne was adding original songs into the set mix, in addition to producing songs of his own material.

In 2002, Kentucky fell in love at first sight with Shelburne, then college student/ small-town country boy with a wide smile, natural singing voice and a love of faith, family and his hometown of Taylorsville, KY. But that small-town image is merely a fond memory now that he has moved on to Nashville down the path to music stardom.

Now find him soaking up the music scene, touring cities, building a fan-base and celebrating a decade of success playing venues all across the southeast trying to get his big break. Today he’s among the most hard working and relevant country singers in the business. They say Nashville doesn’t work that way anymore – that talented musicians with very few connections don’t stand a chance. But Shelburne proved that Music City’s engine still runs off of talent and persistent driven antics. Critics find him credible. Fans pack his shows. Venues strive to book him. There are very few new artists recording songs today about whom that can be said.

During his whirlwind career explosion, he has performed with over 50 national acts ranging from stars such as Montgomery Gentry, Craig Morgan, Jamey Johnson, Kellie Pickler, Steve Wariner to Clay Walker and Johnny Lee, performed at some of the region’s most famous venues such as the Historic Ryman Auditorium, Rupp Arena, Murphy Center Arena, KFC Yum Center, Freedom Hall, Churchill Downs and Old Cardinal Stadium which recently drew the Kentucky State Fair’s largest crowd of the concert series. Shelburne performed “God Bless America” prior to the 2016 Quaker State 400 NASCAR race at Kentucky Speedway to over 100,000 attendees. He has also been featured in Country Weekly Magazine, Kentucky Alumni Magazine, Kentucky Monthly Magazine amongst many other national publications including the Huffington Post. His debut music video “Farmboy” gained him thousands of new fans by airing on the TNN Top Ten Countdown nationwide on Heartland TV network and ZUUS Country Network. In 2015, he made his Nationwide debut on GAC – Great American Country Network and also CMT.com in October with his second music video entitled “Hometown” written about the demise of his smalltown. On October 21, 2015, Shelburne debuted as #1 trending artist on CMT.com edging out Taylor Swift, Luke Bryan and Jason Aldean! Shelburne has performed over 1000 concerts all over the southeast as well as over 300 festivals. Shelburne’s outfit has been featured on display at the Kentucky Derby Museum at Historic Churchill Downs from his appearance at the 2015/2016 Kentucky Derby. In 2016, Shelburne was invited to perform in the Kentucky State Capitol for the State Senate as well as the House of Representatives where he performed his own rendition of “My Old Kentucky Home” for both parties. JD was named an  Honorable Kentucky Colonel and was also presented honor of “Admiral” by the Commonwealth of Kentucky – Energy and Environment Cabinet recently. Also in 2016, the University of Kentucky’s College of Communication and Information named JD Shelburne their 2016 Most Outstanding Alumnus!

Most recently in 2017, Shelburne launched his world premiere official music video for “Better Man” that was filmed in Midway/ Millville, KY. The video also made it’s Network Television Debut on Great American Country (GAC) on June 23, 2017 and is currently in Nationwide rotation. At this past years Kentucky Derby, Shelburne was invited to cook with Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives host Guy Fieri at his restaurant alongside Guy, Travis Tritt and NFL Legend Jerry Rice! In September 2017, Shelburne made his NBC Network Television Debut performing the National Anthem at the NASCAR XS Myrtle Beach 300  at Kentucky Speedway!

Shelburne also has performed at several prestigious nationwide events: 2 NBA Basketball Games, Guaranteed Rate Field for the Chicago White Sox, Suntrust Park for the Atlanta Braves, The Kentucky Derby, Unbridled Eve Derby Gala, Barnstable Brown Derby Gala, events for Jim Beam Brands and Four Roses Bourbon, NCAA Division I College Football/Basketball Games, The National FFA Organization National Convention, Omni Hotels & Resorts, Marriott Hotel Brands, NASCAR Racing Events, Minor League Baseball Games, Dollar General NASCAR Racing Team Event, CMA Music Festival, the NCAA Women’s Final Four, SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament and more! Shelburne, a native of Taylorsville, Kentucky grew up on mixture of country, church gospel and pop rock music forging his own sound along the way.

“What kind of sound could fill this silence?” George Barrie sang in the midst of a  Brothers Drake concert headlined by his namesake band. It didn’t take long for the trio of players backing the singer/guitarist to craft a response, locking into a blues-rock swing awash in jazzy keyboard fills, rubbery bass and steady, rhythmic drumming.

Barrie, a longtime member of soul/funk crew MojoFlo, stepped out on his own for this EP release show (a full-length is currently in process and should see daylight sometime next year), though the quartet’s songs tended to avoid solitude, instead tracing the romantic battles between would-be and former lovers. Over the course of the evening, the frontman challenged a paramour to do their worst (“Cause your worst is still better than all the rest”), described a relationship as a trial-worthy offense (“This love’s a crime of the first degree”) and soaked up the words “I love you” like so much wine on the faith-restoring “I Believe.”

Barrie will be joining us as a solo acoustic artist, and we are thrilled to have him.
